(about September 8, 1743 - June 20, 1803)
Relationship6th great-grandfather of Dan Stone
BirthGabriel Wright was born about September 8, 1743 in (possibly) Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland.9
NotePioneer Record, and Reminiscences, of the Early Settlers, and Settlement of Fayette County, Ohio, by Rufus Putnam, published 1872, is the earliest biography of the Gabriel Wright family that I have located to date. The biography is attributed as having been written by Anthony Wayne Wright, grandson of Gabriel Wright. Of note is that no mention is made of Gabriel being from Scotland. Instead, on page 56, it states "Gabriel Wright, father of John Wright, emigrated from New Jersey to Hampshire County, Virginia, at an early date, and from Virginia to Kentucky, and settled near Big Bone Lick, and remained there seven years, when he removed to the Northwest territory in 1789 [1798]."10
MarriageGabriel Wright married Deborah Ball, daughter of Caleb Ball and Sarah Wallace, about 1762 in Colony of New Jersey, British Colonial America. (Estimated date and place, based on birth of first child. I have yet to locate any documents supporting this date and place.)11,10,12
DeathGabriel Wright died on June 20, 1803 in Ross County, Ohio.13
BurialHe was buried in Baptist Cemetery, Frankfort, Ross County, Ohio.13
NoteNo mention is made in Pioneer Record, and Reminiscences, of the Early Settlers, and Settlement of Fayette County, Ohio, by Rufus Putnam, published 1872, about family legend of the ancestors of Gabriel Wright being descended from Clan MacGregor in Scotland.14
