Analysis and discussion of Lewark/Luark/Ruark/Rheuark DNA test results:

Group 1: John Lewark/Luark Derived Signature

This is a derived probable DNA signature for John Lewark/Luark using the maximum parsimony method (fewest number of mutations required to explain a change) on group 2. It is possible for unlikely mutation sequences to occur, such as multiple mutations occurring in the same generation and thus obscuring the DNA signature of generations farther back than the one in which the mutation occurred. All methods for deriving DNA signatures are subject to uncertainty, but the maximum parsimony method reduces the possibility that a bias in the test results (many people tested from one branch of the family) unduly influences the derived DNA signature of the most recent common ancestor (MRCA). It is possible for such a bias to occur using the statistical mode method (the value that appears most often in a set of data) for deriving DNA signatures. For much more detailed explanations of the principles of deriving DNA signatures, the maximum parsimony method and the statistical mode method, see the following articles:

Group 3: Ruark (Dorchester County, Maryland) Descendants

The two testers who are descendants of the Dorchester County, Maryland, Ruark family appear to match with the descendants of John Lewark/Luark. The DNA testing is also showing they are not closely related to the Worcester County Ruark family (at least of the line that has tested), meaning there were at least two different Ruark families in early Maryland, as has been presented as a possibility by Michael Ruark in his very informative blog.

Group 4: Ruark (Worcester County, Maryland) Descendants

The two testers who are descendants of the Worcester County, Maryland, Ruark family do not appear to match with the descendants of John Lewark/Luark. The DNA testing is also showing they are not closely related to the Dorchester County Ruark family (at least of the line that has tested), meaning there were at least two different Ruark families in early Maryland, as has been presented as a possibility by Michael Ruark in his very informative blog.

Group 5: Magee Descendants

Four testers with the surname of Magee show as borderline matches to the test of one of the descendants of John Lewark/Luark (B4544). The specific lineages of these four Magee testers are not currently available. Comparison with the markers of four Magee descendants who are members of the Roark Surname Project show they are not matches with the descendants of John Lewark/Luark. As with the four Magee men who show as matches, the specific lineages of these four are not currently available, and they may not be the same four. Further analysis is being done, and until a final conclusion can be reached, I will keep this Magee group included in the results grid.
